{"id":590,"date":"2015-10-14T19:02:09","date_gmt":"2015-10-14T19:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/milecastle27.co.uk\/rob\/?p=590"},"modified":"2015-10-14T19:02:09","modified_gmt":"2015-10-14T19:02:09","slug":"unnamed-schottische-nps-book-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/milecastle27.co.uk\/rob\/2015\/10\/unnamed-schottische-nps-book-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Unnamed Schottische (NPS Book 1)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the first edition of the Northumbrian Pipers Society <a href=\"http:\/\/shop.northumbrianpipers.org.uk\/piping-tune-books\/8-nps-tune-book-1-.html\">Tunebook<\/a> published way back in the early days of the NPS there was a tune called simply &#8216;Schottische&#8217;. In the 2nd edition, a number of tunes were dropped from the book including this unnamed Schottische. In the third edition, the tunes were restored and &#8216;lost&#8217; tunes tunes such as Bellingham Fair have been re-appearing in the wild &#8211; but I&#8217;ve yet to hear &#8216;Schottische&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>I was dipping into my library of old books yesterday on a search for something completely unrelated when the tune at the top of the page tripped me up &#8211; it took me about 5 minutes to make the connection &#8211; and now our unnamed Schottische now has a name. Kerr&#8217;s Merry Melodies\u00a0 has this tune as &#8216;Such Chiming&#8217; a melody from the &#8216;The Magic Flute&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/milecastle27.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/SuchChiming_KMM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Such Chiming - Kerrs\" src=\"http:\/\/milecastle27.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/SuchChiming_KMM-300x44.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"44\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The  NPS tunebook version is printed a 4th down (key of D) to fit the range  of the pipes &#8211; but other than that, the tune is practically identical.
